Development Director II

Audio Department

EA Create Audio is an award-winning team designing all aspects of sound for titles across EA Entertainment titles. Uniting creative talents and technical expertise, our team drives industry-leading audio experiences through partnership, expertise, innovation and quality.

There are many exciting projects underway in our studios and we produce progressive audio assets for in-game products from multiple studio locations. We are looking for an experienced person who is passionate about gaming to provide leadership for our catalog of games across multiple locations.

What you will do at EA

We are looking for an experienced business leader who will be responsible for the current business and strategic future direction for a team focused on entertainment and lifestyle franchises; passionate about people and driving them towards common goals. The Development Director oversees all projects in Audio, ensuring each project delivers as expected, aligned with the department’s expertise and planning.

Reporting to the Director of Create Production, this role partners with Audio’s creative leader to balance creativity and business for the many years ahead.

Leadership and People Management

  • Champion the department’s strategic vision
  • Partner with Audio’s Craft Director to develop long-term strategy, vision, needs, technical roadmap, staff development plans, and future department growth opportunities
  • Ensure Audio directors, leads, and designers align with the direction for the department
  • Connect with game team partners to understand their needs through active listening, understanding and partnership
  • Work with development team leadership to identify opportunities for business and evolve the team’s craft
  • Collaborate with other Create business leaders across domains
  • Partner with Create Operations and Finance on business initiatives and planning
  • Manage team scale, building strategies to support projects using internal, external and vendor resources
  • Provide constructive feedback to team members and guide their career development and progression
  • Create an inclusive environment
  • Establish a solution-based approach to overcome complex challenges, in collaboration with the team and other disciplines

Execution

  • Represent Audio department’s vision, interests, accomplishments, and goals
  • Responsible for Audio department financial planning and solutions, planning
  • Oversee all staffing plans and discussions
  • Poactively finding solutions to meet staff requirements
  • Assess audio production risks and lead practical solutions
  • Champion technical innovation and support across the department
  • Evaluate opportunities for change, growth, and evolution of Audio’s support model
  • Work with Operations to develop estimation tools for accurate scoping and bidding
  • Responsible for metrics collection for all projects
  • Analyzing the business while looking for efficiencies

Project Management

  • Work with development leaders and partners to collect potential scope of work, schedules, deadlines, and dependencies
  • Stay up-to-date on all scope of work
  • Maintain an overall department project schedule to align audio business and technical strategies
  • Ensure all projects stay on scope and schedule
  • As new or additional scope arises, evaluate work across Audio leadership, ensuring support while mitigating impact to existing work
  • Evaluate risks and opportunities for the Audio team across their support models and title plan
  • Partner with XDI (Create’s external development team) on staffing solutions to maintain project support and costs
  • Ensure all production updates are communicated to proper audiences
  • Identify and escalate risk
  • Direct financial planning, representing the department’s budget and changes during quarterly estimates

Requirements

  • 7+ years of project management experience
  • 5+ years of team leadership experience
  • Industry experience in video games, film, or television
  • Able to summarize complex information into executive summaries
  • Able to adapt communication methods across all levels and organizations
  • Intermediate familiarity with audio production processes and pipelines
  • Experience in project management methodologies, such as Waterfall and Agile
  • Familiar with project management tools, such as JIRA and Shotgrid

BC COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The base salary ranges listed below are for the defined geographic market pay zones in these locations. If you reside outside of these locations, a recruiter will advise on the base salary range and benefits for your specific location.

EA has listed the base salary ranges it in good faith expects to pay applicants for this role in the locations listed, as of the time of this posting. Salary offered will be determined based on numerous relevant business and candidate factors including, for example, education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, and business or organizational needs.

BASE SALARY RANGES

  • British Columbia (depending on location e.g. Vancouver vs. Victoria):

º $133,400 – $193,200 CAN Annually

Base salary is just one part of the overall compensation at EA. We also offer a package of benefits including vacation (3 weeks per year to start), 10 days per year of sick time, paid top-up to EI/QPIP benefits up to 100% of base salary when you welcome a new child (12 weeks for maternity, and 4 weeks for parental/adoption leave), extended health/dental/vision coverage, life insurance, disability insurance, retirement plan to regular full-time employees. Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and equity.
