Job Description

Why we need help

In 2018 we released Vampire’s Fall: Origins. That game has over 10 million players worldwide. Ever since launch, we’ve been bombarded with requests to make a sequel. For various reasons, our Lead Artist has left and we’re looking for someone else to pick up the torch. Over the years we’ve learnt that working in smaller teams, where everyone truly cares about the end results, is our recipe for not just creating great games, but great art. Great games are art.

What we’re creating

A dark 2D world filled with humans, vampires, monsters and other creatures. Perspective is not traditionally isometric but at a 15° angle. Characters move in all directions. You fight in the same view as you move around, unlike Vampire’s Fall: Origins. Battles are turn-based. We don’t monetize our games like most mobile RPGs do, and we respect our players. We’re trying to put pieces of ourselves into this work of art, and we’d like to take little pieces of you as well! No physical harm, we promise.

What we offer

  • Competitive Salary: €5000/month.
  • Remote Flexibility: Work from anywhere.
  • Creative Freedom: Significant leeway within an established art style.

Skills & Requirements

Who we’re (ideally) looking for

We’re looking for a senior 2D generalist artist. As the only artist on the team of 4, you’ll be responsible for drawing all the 2D art assets we need for the game. This includes assets like swords, shields, armor, enemies, hairstyles, trees, houses, UI buttons, and UI icons.

You like to work iteratively and don’t mind sharing progress early. If your current task is to make 10 new swords, you’ll have the first concepts ready in a day, ask for feedback, and then either polish or move on to other tasks. You can take feedback professionally and understand the importance of leaving the ego at the door in favor of creating great art. You’re well versed in Photoshop, Illustrator and Unity3D. You have a great portfolio. You’ve always loved role-playing games. You’re in a timezone that’s 3 hours +- from Stockholm.

Bonus if you’re able to

Use Unity to do actual world-building with the art you made. Placing trees, roads, houses, etc. Understand what makes a good role-playing game and give feedback on game design. Use Unity to make the UI with the UI sprites you made. Create effects in Unity with particle systems. Animate in Unity. Playtest builds and comment on not just the art, but the game as a whole.

How to Apply

Send your resume and portfolio to careers@earlymorningstudio.com. Tell us why you think you’re the right person to help bring this dark fantasy world to life!

This role is not suitable for outsourcing studios.

Remote work environment.

About the Company

Early Morning Studio was founded by Kristian Andersson and Emir Kuljanin while they were still in university in Sweden. It was a necessary outlet for their inner creative drive. A desire to create new worlds. After months of hard work, without any resources but with a lot of passion, their first game title, Vampire’s Fall, was finished. It was a success that they didn’t expect and it motivated them to keep studying and eventually find jobs within the gaming industry.

The desire to create their own games and worlds grew. With a new game idea brewing, they found the missing piece that made them into a trio: Lead Artist Julijana from Serbia. Together they teamed up to make another game, using and combining all the knowledge and experience they acquired through the years. They invested all their free time, energy, love and passion for world-creating, fantasy, old-school games and strategy to create Vampire’s Fall: Origins – a prequel of their first game. A journey inspired by the classic RPGs we all grew up with.
