Job Summary:
NetEase Entertainment, Inc. (K.K.). is seeking an experienced employment attorney who will be based in Japan to join NetEase’s Global Employment Legal team. In collaboration with legal colleagues on the Employment Legal team and the broader Group International Legal team, the successful candidate will be primarily responsible for employment legal matters arising in connection with NetEase’s various business units and gaming studios in Japan, working closely with multiple HR teams primarily based in Japan and China. This role will work closely with the global employment attorneys at NetEase who sit in China and the US.
Responsibilities:
- Provide legal support on a full range of employment issues across all NetEase business units and games studios, including recruitment, onboarding, employee disputes, leaves, offboarding, cross-border mobility, wage/hour issues, workforce type (among other issues);
- Assist with local and global HR teams to develop and update Japan HR work rules, policies, procedures and practices for all NetEase Japan entities;
- Partner with other members of the Global Labor & Employment team on global projects and local implementation of same;
- Work closely with the HR teams supporting Japan (and possibly other jurisdictions as needed) to understand the local HR practices and challenges;
- Develop and maintain employment legal documents, including template agreements, forms, work rules/employee handbooks, and other working materials;
- Effectively and efficiently work with and manage external counsel;
- Review employment/HR-related contracts for all NetEase Japan entities; and
- Provide other general legal support as necessary for local and global HRO/HR teams

Required Qualifications:
- Is admitted to practice law preferably in Japan although US and other English-speaking jurisdictions considered.
- Has solid experience and understanding in issues concerning Japanese labor law and related legal areas in Japan.
- Brings a strong business acumen and analytical capabilities. We value practical, solution-oriented thinking where our attorneys exercise great judgment without agonizing, resulting in immediate action and smart decisions.
- Proven ability to work proactively, and collaboratively cross-functionally; the right candidate thinks and advises practically, is solution-oriented, and can keep a cool head in high-stress situations.
- Is open-minded and able to pivot quickly as business needs change.
- Brings exceptional organizational, time management skills with the ability to work under deadlines and execute efficiently against multiple high priority projects in a fast-paced environment, balancing multiple time zones
- Has excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Is fluent in Japanese and English (knowledge of Mandarin Chinese also a plus).
- A minimum of 5 – 7 years of legal experience in a law firm and/or multinational corporate legal department, focused on employment.
- Familiarity and experience with business practices of the Japanese mobile / AAA games creation and publishing industry and experience working in a global corporate environment and advising on the laws of other countries in Asia (preferably Singapore and South Korea) is a plus.
