And here’s where you come in! This role will spearhead the creation of cinematic content for Predecessor using Unreal Engine 5. In this role, you’ll construct large-scale, high-quality scenes optimized for real-time cinematic production. We’re looking for someone who can blend cinematic sensibility with technical prowess and pull off amazing work with a relatively small team. This position sits within the Publishing organization and mostly focuses on the creation of high quality cinematic and in-game trailers, teasers, and assets for social media.

In This Role You Will

  • C inematic Scene Assembly: Build and manage intricate scenes for real- time cinematic use in Unreal Engine, focusing on photorealism and stylistic variety.
  • Advanced Material and Lighting: Craft detailed materials and lighting setups to enhance visual storytelling and thematic depth of trailers to truly wow our audience.
  • Visual Effects and Animation: Implement a wide range of visual effects and basic animations to enhance the cinematic quality of scenes.
  • Storyboarding: Create detailed storyboards and animatics to visualize cinematic sequences and establish the pacing, framing, and composition of each shot.
  • Content Optimization: Work collaboratively with the marketing, design and production teams, as well as with partner agencies, to optimize cinematic content for various platforms, ensuring high performance and visual fidelity.
  • Cinematic Direction: Operate cameras within Unreal Engine’s Sequencer, employing expert camera animation techniques to create compelling narratives.
  • Mentor ship: Provide guidance, feedback, and mentorship to junior cinematic and VFX artists, helping them develop their skills and grow as professionals within the team.
  • Pipeline Optimization: Identify opportunities to streamline and optimize the cinematic production pipeline, including tools, workflows, and techniques, to improve efficiency and productivity. Coordinate with the Art Director and Publishing Lead, implementing feedback meticulously to refine and optimize production pipelines.

What We’re Looking For

  • 5+ years as a Cinematic Artist in the gaming industry, specifically with a focus on cinematic production using Unreal Engine.
  • Mastery of shader languages like HLSL, GLSL, with substantial experience in shader and material development for cinematic content.
  • Proven ability to create both photorealistic and stylized art, showcasing a comprehensive understanding of the artistic and technical aspects of cinematic production.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of bridging the gap between art and engineering teams effectively, with a love for mentorship.
  • Extensive experience with Unreal Engine, especially in crafting real-time, cinematic content.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects with separate timelines in parallel, prioritizing daily work as needed to hit deadlines. Some of our projects spring up quickly and are done in a week, while others develop slowly and take years to come to life.

Nice to Have

  • Demonstrates a range of styles, creativity, and a structured design approach in cinematic content creation within Unreal Engine.
  • H as strong knowledge of Unreal Engine 5, including shading, lighting techniques, surfacing, cinematic tools, and real-time VFX.
  • Is an expert at understanding composition, color theory, perspective, lighting, and graphical design principles related to cinematic production.
  • Comes from a place of deep appreciation for cinema and video games, understanding how the craft of filmmaking integrates with game development and marketing.
  • Experience with Adobe After Effects, Premiere, and hands-on experience in the game industry or post-production are major pluses.
